Are sufficient precautions in place?

One of our concerns is a seeming lack of preparedness on the part of some local governments in accepting these wells. While we generally feel that there should be no drilling, since there has been drilling, more safety precautions should be enacted. At minimum – where wells have been allowed – county and township officials should have emergency evacuation plans in place in case of emergency.

Sometimes the wells have been placed near schools and residences–in the case of a blowout, what would happen to these people? Hopefully that won’t happen, yet hopefully their county government could somehow help get people to safety were a blowout to happen.
